Good Move. Together in the same direction
Good Move, officially the Regional Mobility Plan 2020-2030, brings together a number of lines that were already set out years before by the previous government. Two basic principles brought about a change of pace.
Good Move: bottom-up, not top-down
For four years, representatives of all the parties involved listened and consulted, and ideas were tested and adjusted: institutional partners, mobility partners, the municipalities, the economic players, the association world and the citizens. Participatory democracy in practice.

Good Move puts people first
The plan starts from the user’s point of view and aims to provide everyone with adapted, easily combined solutions for every trip. Quiet, pleasant neighbourhoods are linked by effective public transport and smoother traffic. This allows everyone to make the right transport choices according to destination and time of day.
Conclusion
- The result is a plan that is supported by a broad spectrum of stakeholders.
- Mobility is translated into all possible options for the road user.
- That is why the multimodal model is paramount at SmartMove.
Good Move, short and good
The mobility plan is the translation of a vision of the city of the future. A city where the quality of life is central. The plan is structured around 6 action programmes.
Good Neighbourhood
Creating pleasant, low-traffic residential areas by keeping out through traffic and making room for more greenery and safe play areas for children.
Good Network
Making structural space for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport in such a way that you can cross the city through a network of safe routes.
Good Service
Organising different forms of transport in such a way that residents and visitors can move around the city easily in every possible way: Mobility as a Service (MaaS).
Good Choice
Making people aware of the impact of their transport choices and motivating them to choose sustainable forms of mobility. SmartMove is an interpretation of this.
Good Partner
The government brings together representatives of all the parties involved in a Regional Mobility Commission to regularly discuss topical issues.
Good Knowledge
Thanks to new technologies, we can measure and know much more about mobility. As a government, we want to collect this information and make it accessible to all interested parties.

Consultation is also part of Good Move
Brussels is a crossroads. Many interests converge in the capital. And what is good for Brussels is often good for the whole country. Including the other regions.

Working together on workable solutions
“Cooperation with federal and regional authorities” is explicitly included in the new Brussels mobility plan. This is already happening in many areas.
A good example of this is Brupass XL, the single fare for all public transport in and around Brussels. To this end, the regional transport companies STIB, De Lijn and TEC worked closely together with the SNCB (National Railway Company of Belgium).

What about the SmartMove consultation?
The SmartMove project was given concrete expression and approved by the Brussels government on 3 December 2020. This decision is the basis for consultation with the other regions.
We start from common interests: traffic congestion is a problem for the entire region. Less car traffic in the rush hour and smoother transport is beneficial for the whole country.
